This trail starts at the Pharaoh's Column in the ez-Zantur area. As you walk towards Mount Aaron, following a visit to the Snake Monument, you head north towards Wadi Qurayya. The trail then ascends towards the elevated areas of al-Barra, situated between Mount Umm al-Biyara to the east and Mount Aaron to the west. Along the way, you can enjoy viewing Nabataean petroglyphs on the cliffs and observe water cisterns carved into the rocks, as well as some ancient Nabataean inscriptions. Upon reaching the heights of al-Barra, you'll see the monastery facade and a panoramic view of Petra's mountains to the east. At the western end of the slope, you'll encounter a breathtaking panorama of the Bir Madhkur area in Wadi Araba and Mount Aaron to the south. Descending towards Wadi al-Wugait, you'll find the spring of Al-Zalaf spring, still used by locals for their livestock. After visiting Al-Zalaf spring, head east through Wadi al-Wugait until you reach the road leading back to Mount Aaron. Along the way, enjoy the sight of pistachio trees and perhaps catch a glimpse of the elusive blue Sinai lizard in this area. Please ensure to bring essential items such as water, a hat, and suitable footwear.
